Accolades: Alan Richman loves Pizzeria Vetri’s Rotolo
"This is a rethinking of the ham-and-cheese croissant, superior in every way."

GQ's legendarily never not polarizing (and Philly-born) food critic Alan Richman lined up his best dishes of 2014 so far and one of our local favorites made the list — the rotolo from Pizzeria Vetri (1939 Callowhill St.). Here's what Richman had to say about this little piece of pizza perfection:
"Rotolo usually refers to a rolled-up pasta or pastry, but not here. It's pizza dough rolled around mortadella (Italian bologna), ricotta, and pistachio pesto, baked crispy and crunchy. This is a rethinking of the ham-and-cheese croissant, superior in every way, and at $3.50, a bargain. Even the presentation beats the French version, nutty pesto scattered about the plate."
