wikipedia

At least six Center City public schools have been locked down following reports of a man brandishing a handgun at the Community College of Philadelphia.

No injuries have been reported, and the gunman is now believed to be in Northeast Philadelphia. It is believed that the gunman will turn himself in to police custody within the hour.

According to police, the gunman rushed into a chemistry class and threatened students, but it is not believed that he discharged his firearm. SWAT teams were called to the scene, and nearby public schools, including Julia R Masterman, Ben Franklin High and St. Joe's Prep, were locked down.

"It's standard procedure to put the school into lockdown if there are police reports of a man with a gun nearby," said an administrator at Masterman Middle and High School.

Police believe that the intial altercation was over a girlfriend.
