Change Ups: George Costa Leaving Petruce et al

Drew Lazor

Sad news for cocktail enthusiasts, it looks like veteran barkeep George Costa is retiring from the game and moving out of Philly. Costa opened premier cocktail destination Southwark and spent time behind the bar at Pub & Kitchen before making his way to Petruce et al. (1121 Walnut St.) According to Petruce partner Tim Kweeder Costa is moving his family out to the country to pursue another longtime passion, fishing. Make sure to head on over to Petruce to wish Costa lots of luck and share a few drinks. He'll be there until mid October. His last bartending shift in the city will be at Southwark celebrating their 10th anniversary. We'll keep you posted about the exact date when we have it.

Kweeder recruited Mike Haggerty, who's most recent gig was at a.bar to take over Costa's position as bar manager and has plenty of kind words about him: "[We're] talkin' aboot a cat that is passionate about cocktails, has that natural instinct of hospitality and is quite the charmer."
