To the penalty box! Er, Canadian police station!

Philadelphia Flyers star Claude Giroux was arrested in Ottawa on Tuesday evening, per the Ottawa Sun. His alleged crime? “Repeatedly grabbing the buttocks of a male police officer.” Oh, Canada!
Sources tell the Sun that Giroux, 26 and a native of Ontario, spent the night in jail but was not charged with any crime. The story was apparently broken by noted news source Shaheed09 on Twitter, who last night wrote “Claude giroux in the back of a cop car downtown ottawa” followed by two crying-with-laughter emojis. Emojis in news reports! Why didn’t we think of that?
Giroux, who rebounded from a slow start to post a career-high 28 goals last season, was the most popular Flyer in the burgeoning Flyers fan fiction genre I wrote about last year. Unfortunately, I was not able to find any stories that match Tuesday night’s alleged incident exactly — though I suppose some will be coming now.
Giroux has no prior reported trouble with the law. The Sun reported alcohol was involved in the incident. The Flyers had no comment. Ottawa police spokesman Marc Soucy wouldn’t comment on the report to Flyers beat writer Tim Panaccio, but did confirm Giroux was not charged with any crime. Soucy said Giroux could face minor discipline — classes, community service, etc. — if the matter was handled internally.
Giroux didn't respond to texts from CSN Philly. Perhaps he’s sleeping off that hangover.
