A freakish, hallucinating ride.

[ 7/22 ] After canceling on us back in April, Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks returned to Philly play to for an enthusiastic crowd at Johnny Brenda’s. The murderous trio consisting of Animal Collective’s Avey Tare, keyboardist Angel Deradoorian (an ex-Dirty Projector), and drummer Jeremy Hyman (formerly of Ponytail) took us on a melodic tour of their slasher house. Although the stage wasn’t decorated with projecting skulls as in previous shows, the venue was still bursting with chilling vibes. The trio tore through their debut album, Enter the Slasher House, which translated flawlessly live. Avey Tare’s famed shattering yelps were a thing of beauty; matched with Angel’s low-key backing vocals and creepy synth grooves that kept the crowd dancing into the night. Nearly stealing the show was drummer Hyman who bashed his kit with abandon and pummeled the crowd with explosive noise. All in all, a freakish, hallucinating ride which will pleasantly haunt my dreams for a while.
