Concert Review/Photos: Dave Matthews Band @ Susquehanna Bank Center
Serving as their own opener, the band stood close together and played a scaled down set.

[ 6/13 ] On Friday night, the Dave Matthews Band took the stage for the first of two nights at Camden’s Susquehanna Bank Center. This tour is taking a new route, splitting the show into two sets — an acoustic and electric. Serving as their own opener, the band stood close together and played a scaled down set, but the energy could have easily passed as a full-blown rock show. The acoustic set included such tracks as “Ants Marching” and “Two Step,” ending with an enthusiastic rendition of “What Would You Say,” which had the entire venue on its feet dancing and singing along.
After a short break, a curtain rose, leaving a see-through screen in front of the stage. The band began to play an improv jam behind the screen while lasers shot across the venue. Once the screen lifted, they rocked into “Squirm” and “You Might Die Trying.” Other tracks during the electric set included “Satellite” and “So Much to Say.” They ended with “Tripping Billies.”
The crowd didn’t want the night to end, and Dave obliged with play a solo rendition of “Some Devil.” Afterwards, the band rejoined and played “Pig” along with a rocking rendition of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower.”
It was a beautiful, hot summer night and fans were engulfed from start to finish. As Dave fans know, their concerts are nothing short of a huge love fest. His charm and interaction with his band and crowd make you feel like you’re jamming out with your best buds. The crowd was eclectic, from the rowdy college kids to the middle-aged longtime fans, but everyone was in unison when it came to singing along and enjoying the night.
