Last night at World Café’s Wilmington venue, The Queen, relative newcomer Judith Hill ascended to the throne during an exhilarating set of pop and R&B. Beginning her set on keyboard with a lovely rendition of Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend,” the former contestant of The Voice wowed the packed upstairs with covers and original material alike. The high point of the night was her outstanding take on Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” followed by her exhilarating original song “My People.” Hill’s soulful voice carried through to the powerful encore ending with another original, “Desperation.” With that song, featured on the soundtrack to the documentary 20 Feet from Stardom, which she appeared in this year, Hill made a phenomenal case for why she should be front and center for a long time to come.
