[ 8/22 ] Trip-hop heads and lovers of spacey goodness gathered at Union Transfer for quite a lineup. Funky Son Little crooned to the masses equipped with a soundboard and electric guitar; check out some of his singles like “Cross My Heart” and “Your Love Will Blow Me Away When My Heart Aches” for some Motown-meets-Frank Ocean tunes. Next up was LA’s Clipping, where thrashy beats meet quick rap flow. The threesome featuring rapper Daveed Diggs and producers Jonathan Snipes and William Hutson recently put out their second album CLPPNG. on Sub Pop. Last but not least, headliner Shabazz Palaces delivered bass heavy tracks from the group’s previous work and with their newest album Lese Majesty (also on Sub Pop). Given this Seattle group’s jazz and hip-hop influences, it should come as no surprise that the secret masterminds behind this dreamy/trippy creation are former Digable Planets member Ishmael Butler and producer Tendai Maraire.
