DIYPHL beat back the Valentine's Day cold with an evening of rock tributes.
[2/14] DIYPHL beat back the Valentine’s Day cold with their second annual Love is Dead tribute band show. Despite the gloomy moniker, the evening was celebratory, with multiple makeshift groups coming together to salute bands they love (and further highlight the inclusive spirit of the Philadelphia punk community). The night seemed to get off to an awkward start when the Sleater-Kinney stand-ins’ equipment began picking up an errant radio signal as they tried to launch into “You’re No Rock N’ Roll Fun,” as if the patron saint of Valentine’s Day, St. Hallmark, had decided to interfere with the proceedings out of spite. Thankfully, some self-deprecating humor and support from an eager crowd seemed to solve the problem, and the night was off without any further issues. Next came The Cramps, Jawbreaker, Chin Chin and Patti Smith. It all came together with an audience-band singalong version of “Gloria.”
