A rare concert by the six-piece band of Tuareg musicians from Mali's Sahara Desert region.

[3.21] The Prince Music Theater played host Friday to Tinariwen, the six-piece band of Tuareg musicians from Mali’s Sahara Desert region. Led by founding member Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, Tinariwen took a nearly sold-out crowd on a journey of uplifting rock. With most songs built around guitars, bass, and percussion of both the drum and clapping kind, there was a surge of joy pouring from these brilliant musicians.

With a newly minted record out in Emmaar, which was featured along with 2011’s Tassili throughout the set, Tinariwen had the Philly crowd cheering, clapping and moving about, bringing their music to life. It is an experience every music fan should have, so don’t miss them on their next visit.

The Melodic opened.
