In other words, it's time to start drinking.

Drinking Plans: Mardi Gras, Carnaval, Fat Tuesday, etc.

Well folks, today is Fat Tuesday i.e. Karneval i.e. Carnaval which basically means a great excuse to drink a bunch of cocktails on a Tuesday. Here are a few of our picks for German, Mexican and New Orleans style partying, none of which involve Fat Tuesday on South Street.

Brauhaus‎ (718 South St.) is hosting Big in Munich, chef Jeremy Nolen's classic rock cover band with Cheu's Ben Puchowitz on guitar plus they're running specials on kolsch and serving on the house apps.

Both Cantina locations (1651 E Passyunk Ave. and 931 N 2nd St.) are celebrating Carnaval Mexican style with $5 margaritas, tequila shots and sangria all day long plus $4-$6 snack specials including Mexican hot dogs, chicken tinga tostadas and shrimp molletes.

Over at Rex 1516 (1516 South St.) they've got Mardi Gras perfect cocktails like Sazeracs and Hurricanes plus individual king cakes (plastic baby included) and chicken and andouille gumbo.
