FIREFLY 2014: What's coming up this week(end); Philly bands on the lineup
I'm busy packing my flower headbands and denim cutoffs.

Less than an hour and a half south of Philly, the third annual Firefly Music Festival kicks off this Thursday — unofficially on Wednesday evening, for those with primo camping spots — and runs through Sunday. It’s the longest the festival's been since it began: That means an extra day and night of (sweaty) music, (sweaty) camping, (sweaty) hammock hangouts, Dogfish Head beer tent visits and (Jesus, so sweaty) everything else. Single day tickets are still available, FYI.
I'll be there starting Wednesday evening, bringing you photos and updates on our Instagram and Twitter (check the hashtag #citypaperatfirefly) so you'll be in the loop even if you didn't buy a pass. Check back on the blog after the weekend, too, for a wrap-up of our favorite festival moments.
This year, Philly artists Amos Lee and Cruiser are in the main lineup mix, and the Red Bull Sound Select Stage will present emerging artists, many from Philly, for 10 a.m.-noon sets on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Those Philly artists on the Sound Select Stage are:
Mike Taylor (who will also play the Mad Decent Block party Aug. 8); Downtown Club; Needle Points; DRGN King (who just played at Kung Fu Necktie on June 12); S.T.S. (Sugar Tongue Slim); Weekender, and Nothing.
The Sound Select stage also offers the “Breakfast Club” — your RSVP is good for a first-come, first-served complimentary breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Check that out here.
Christian Porter (he was on “The Voice”), also a Pennsylvania native, will take “The Big Break” stage on Friday — in December, Firefly had 15 unsigned musical acts compete for a set at the festival. Fans voted for the top three, and Porter’s one of them.
Stay tuned! This native Delawarean, who has been to Firefly each year since the start, assures you that it's not to be missed. (If you're the kind of person who can stand five nights in a tent and subpar pooping-in-peace situations, that is.) You might as well buy your tickets for next year as soon as they go on sale after this year's fest is over — Red Frog Events, which produces Firefly, has a 10-year lease on the Dover fairgrounds.
