Good News: Booze & Grocery Delivery from Instacart

File this under things that should have happened a few months back i.e. in the wintry midst of the Polar Vortex: Instacart is launching in Philly today!

So what's Instacart? Well, if you're familiar with grocery delivery services like FreshDirect and Peapod, well, this is similar but better 'cause there's booze. Instacart has made a deal with the PLCB and is able to delivery a full haul of groceries plus a your choice of bottles from the state store in about an hour. Given the two-stop shopping situation in our fair state, this is kind of genius.

Right now Instacart is offering delivery from Superfresh, BJs and yes, even Whole Foods.

Delivery charges start at $7.99 for orders from $10 to $35 and drop down to $3.99 after the $35 mark. (Bonus: Free delivery for first timers when you sign up for the service.) And there's even a handy app for your phone.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Instacart's service (minus the whole booze and food delivery thing) is the delivery area that covers pretty much all of the city including Center City, South Philadelphia, University City, Kingsessing, Cobbs Creek, Overbrook, Wynnefield, Bala Cynwyd, Wynnewood, Penn Valley, Manayunk, Roxborough, Chestnut Hill, Mt Airy, Germantown, East Falls, Nicetown, North Philadelphia, Fishtown, Fairmount, Northern Liberties, Lower Merion, Gladwyne, Ardmore, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Havertown and even some parts of Upper Darby.

Now if we can just figure out how to get them to delivery beer...
