Just found out that Peche, that strangely placed but quite lovely catering/event hall out on Scotts Lane, is closing and I couldn’t be sadder. I spent a magical night with the James Beard Award people for its traveling showcase recently, had a swellegant dinner, sat across from one of the night’s honorees, Steve Poses and his missus, and just basked in the candlelit set up. Sad that. No ho-ho-hos there.

The date for ACHIEVEability Philly’s upcoming family food self-sufficiency meal-a-thon and benefit starring some this city’s top chefs just got posted. The next Food for Thought 2014 event is March 22, it takes place at the Urban Outfitters mega-center on South Broad in the Naval Yard, and you will be able to get tickets at achieveability.org.

I’ve read some grousing from critics and fans of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who have stated that its newest awardees, Philly’s Daryl Hall and John Oates, don’t deserve the honor because they dissed the potential of being honored years back. Pshaw. Everyone says they don’t care if they get in. Jonathan Wolfson, the pal and longtime manager of Hall and Oates says that “both Daryl and John are pleased to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” in a written statement. They will be participating in the ceremony at the Barclays on April 10.

Discussed and ranted about since they bought it in January 2013, the Philadelphia Film Society Theater at the Roxy on Sansom Street opens its doors today, with the not-so-independent Saving Mr. Banks (now) and Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street on Christmas Day. “For the past year — at screenings, events and even our Philadelphia Film Festival — I had to address many questions regarding the status of the Roxy and its ongoing makeover,” said Andrew Greenblatt, executive director of PFS in an email. “I can’t wait for people to come to the theater, see all of the incredible work that has been done, and experience a film in the comfort of our new home.” Hey, there might not be booze involved, say, like there will be at Greenblatt’s associate Ray Murray of TLA fame’s possible bar-cinema coming to their Northern Liberties warehouse (hopefully) in 2014. I for one will sneak a flask of Svedva into Wolf and get toasted. Scorsese films are always better that way. Which reminds me, the Wolf features the Temple University Diamond Band out of their usual marching gear and spruced up (or down?) in its underwear while trailing star Jonah Hill through an office parade. And why is that strange? You can also see TU’s DB in full march regalia in the Jay Z/Will Smith-produced Annie starring Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhane Wallis, due out next Christmas movie season.

We’re hearing from those who usually know about such things that reps from Caesars and MGM straight outta Vegas have been surveying the damn-near-plagued Revel for possible purchase, maybe as early as January 2014.

I spent a goodly portion of this week’s Icepack in Print extolling the virtues of several of Philly rawk’s more prominent Christmas videos. Here is another: Cory J. Popp’s “A Philly Christmas” alive at the local photographer’s site.

WHOWHATWHERE: While his entourage was spotted making merry at the Field House, Drake stayed mostly to himself before and after playing Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday night for the last gig in his North American tour. He was however spied heading to a private plane with champagne after the show. Stay classy, Drake. Meanwhile back at the Wells Fargo, during Rod Stewart’s sold-out show, the singer gave a shout out to WMGK-FM’s staff for its dedication to American veterans of all wars. Rod the Mod would have been proud then to see that 102.9’s John DeBella and the station were giving away free Christmas trees to active duty family members for his Trees for Troops charity at Mealey’s Furniture store in Warminster, PA with pines from Arasapha Farms. Good on him. On the continued radio charity front, AJ McLean, Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson and Howie Dorough of the Backstreet Boys attended the Mix 106 and Q102 Toys for Tots Collection at Mix 106/Q102 Performance Theatre last week and made nice with groups of kids as well as members of the Philly branch of the Marine Corps. Other radio station visitors not feeling in such a charitable mood was the selfish likes of Joe (at WDAS), New Hollow (at Q102) and Colbie Callait with her dog Mate, (MIXX 106.1) Philly-area raised Beth Behrs from 2 Broke Girls hit the red carpet at the Philadelphia Style Magazine Holiday Issue party at Trust last night. The entire Eagles team hit up Del Frisco’s balcony floor last Thursday for an array of meats for a lion’s cage. So did the cast of Jersey Boys who are in town, and on stage at the Forrest until January 5. They hit up Ralph Berarducci’s Walnut Street Supper Club for a luncheon debuting menu items dedicated to the actors themselves. I’ll have whatever the Frankie’s having.
