If there were a 28th Amendment, Philadelphians would want term limits for Congress, and pizza for everybody
The right to cheesy carbohydrates shall not be infringed upon by any governmental body, we say.
The National Constitution Center’s “27 Amendments (In 27 Days)” initiative came to a close today at noon with the unveiling of the most popular submissions for a 28th Amendment to the Constitution, as imagined by museum visitors and online users.
From a few hundred submissions overall, the top three most popular submissions (collected from Feb. 1-27):
-Term limits for Congress
-Eliminating corporate personhood
-Reforming or abolishing the Electoral College
Today, more than 200 students also gathered at the Constitution Center to vote from the top three submissions — the winning suggestion was "term limits for Congress."
Other submissions:
-Move Presidential inauguration up to second week of November
-Redistricting/gerrymandering reform
-Repeal 17th Amendment (election of senators)
-Mandatory retirement age for public officials
-Restrictions/conditions on salaries and benefits of Congress/public Officials
-Campaign finance reform
-LGBT rights/marriage equality
-“No new amendment. We need better, more informed, better aware citizen/voters.”
And, because this is Philadelphia:
-Pizza Fridays, obviously #pizzaforall
-To make sure Sidney Crosby never wins another Stanley Cup.
