Whether going to the movies on Christmas day is a tradition or a spur of the moment decision, here's what we recommend checking out.
We really liked these films:
- The Wolf of Wall Street: DiCaprio finds his calling as a smooth-talking, morally crippled man in Martin Scorsese's monument to self-indulgence.
- The Great Beauty: Italy's Oscar hopeful for this year follows a bon vivant disenchated with the high life.
- All is Lost: Robert Redford is the man in this lost-at-sea thriller.
- Blue is the Warmest Color: An epic three-hour love story that's more than its heroic sex scenes.
And thought these were pretty good:
- Inside Llewyn Davis: A folk singer (and a cat) embark on an odyssey to nowhere in the new Coen Brothers film.
- Dallas Buyers Club: Matthew McConaughey nails his role as a hard-partying rodeo fixture diagnosed with HIV.
- 12 Years a Slave: A harrowing film based on the shocking true story of a freeman forced into slavery.
- Blue Jasmine: Woody Allen's story of a crooked financier's wife who hits the skids after his pyramid scheme crumbles.
- Gravity: A space odyssey best seen in 3D.
