Now Hear This: Scratch Tracks — aka TJ Kong did a podcast [NSFW]

When Dan Bruskewicz — frontman for Philly band TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb — and City Paper freelancer Bryan Bierman emailed to ask about making us a podcast I did not reply for like a week. I was frozen in terror and wonder.

Then I said yes and now I’m listening to it and right fucking on, people. The dry-witted Bierman and the irascibly tipsy Bruskewicz (totes friends IRL) have a real rapport. I think the word I wanna use for them is “charming.” They riff off each others’ jokes when they’re not stepping all over them it’s a damn good time.

Doesn’t hurt that TJ Kong’s new EP, Kong, is also a damn good time. It’s rollicking and verbose and catchy and if I compare it to Tom Waits will you promise not to think of fake grizzle and faux grumble? If you like the snippets you hear on the podcast, you should go see TJ Kong at Johnny Brenda’s tomorrow night.

So, here you go, the first and possibly only episode of Scratch Tracks featuring Bryan Bierman and Dan Bruskewicz.

TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb, Fri., April 18, 9:15 p.m., $10, with Ali Wadsworth and Satellite Hearts, Pine Barons, at Johnny Brenda’s.
