Progressives gather Saturday to back Hanger for governor
Philly progressive activists will gather on Saturday to support Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Hanger. The event will begin at 3 p.m. at the Arch Street United Methodist Church, 55 N. Broad St. More information is here on the Facebook page.
There is a crowded field of Democrats fighting for the opportunity to take on Republican Gov. Tom Corbett this November, and we will be writing a lot more about the primary race in coming weeks.
Hanger describes himself as the race's true progressive, and has made public education and legalizing marijuana centerpieces of his campaign.
Speakers include Nancy Dung Nguyen of the Vietnamese American organization Boat People SOS, Kia Hinton of Action United, Ronald Blount of the Unified Taxi Worker Alliance, members of the Point Breeze Organizing Committee, and public-education activist Ron Whitehorn.
