Any bets on what it might be?

Update from Mural Arts: The mural is called Lotus Diamond. Work on the mural began on Monday morning, and it will be completed by Friday afternoon, Aug. 8. This is the first of two scheduled projects that Shepard will do with Mural Arts in the coming year.

About an hour ago, Mural Arts tweeted this:

[That address is right near Frankford Hall.] And then this:

Mural Arts also added that their team is prepping the wall now, and "once that's done, @OBEYGIANT will get started pretty quickly."

In case you didn't know, Shepard Fairey is the illustrator and street artist who came up with the OBEY Andre the Giant sticker campaign, as well as the Barack Obama "Hope" poster. His work is in the Smithsonian, the L.A. County Museum of Art, the MOMA and the National Portrait Gallery. He's a big deal.

He's already done murals in Philly, including an oft-tagged-upon one at Rocket Cat Cafe in Fishtown (the banner photo) and another in Brewerytown. This will be the first large-scale mural he does here.

No word yet on what's to come for the Frankford Ave. mural, but stay tuned.
