TONIGHT: Stories of 19th-century prostitutes and dumptrucks-turned-monsters at comic talk

Daniel McCloskey
Tonight at Locust Moon Comics (34 S. 40th St.) two comic book artists from Pittsburgh will give a free talk about their new work.
Daniel McCloskey will discuss the process of creating Top of the Line, an eight-part sci-fi serial about a monster-fighting hero who's also a bigot. The sixth (and latest) installment was made possible through Kickstarter support, which also helped him buy three new front teeth (his old ones were knocked out in a bike accident). He also runs the Cyberpunk Apocalypse, a residency program where artists can live for free (it was featured in a New York Times article about artists who work in spaces with little to no heat).
Then, Nils Skeletonballs will speak about the research he did for Ship of Soiled Doves, his comic based on the true story of Nashville's attempt to rid its city of prositutes during the Civil War by putting them all on a steamboat and sending them to Louisville. When the Kentucky city refused to allow the passengers to disembark, the "Floating Whorehouse," as it was called, headed back to Nashville, where prostitution was made legal, at least until the end of the war.
Oh, and the event's BYOB, so there's that.
