There's a new doc about Philly soul singer Bunny Sigler
Born in Northern Liberties, soul singer Bunny Sigler was known for showing his sensitive side to the point that he was given the nickname "Mr. Emotion." Early in his career he'd cry on stage; later, as he helped shaped "The Philadelphia Sound," he wrote love songs like "That's How Long I'll Be Loving You."
Local filmmaker Steve Janas' new documentary has the soul singer reminicising about his career, from cutting records for Gamble and Huff's label in the 1970s to his later collaborations with Nelly, the Roots and Jay Z, all while driving around Philly in his slick, white convertible and pointing out landmarks. (Nodding toward the Delaware, Sigler says, "This is where I learned to swim.")
In 19 minutes, Janas' doc is a concise portrait of a bygone era, all told by a very charming Sigler.
