The greatest hits of "fbpdplt," the commenter whose identifying information was just subpoenaed from philly.com in a defamation suit for calling Johnny Doc a bad name.
Newsworks' Emma Jacobs reports that a judge has ordered Philly.com to turn over the information of one of its commenters, who goes by the name "fbpdplt," for a defamation lawsuit being filed by political player John Dougherty, head of Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Notes Jacobs:
Philly.com commenters are known for being profane, prolific and extremely critical.
So what did fbpdplt say that's getting him sued, again? The Inquirer posted Sunday that:
In October 2012, Dougherty sued over a comment posted two months earlier on a Daily News blog that described a public feud involving Dougherty. The comment identified Dougherty by his well-known nickname, "Johnny Doc," and called him "the pedophile."
The comment, which was on a blog post involving Chick-Fil-A and gay marriage, has since been scrubbed by philly.com. But we were curious. Who is this person? What else has fbpdplt been saying? Was this a one-time comment from a political enemy, or just the regular old philly.com bile-spewing?
The identity of fbpdplt wasn't hard to figure out at all; his digital trail is a mile wide. It's so easy to find him that Johnny Doc's lawyers almost certainly already know who he is and subpoenaed the information to officially verify it.
We're not going to post fbpdplt's name, but here's some details to give you an idea of who he is: He’s 63. He's involved with the Tea Party. He’s a retired firefighter who teaches boating safety. His handle fbpdplt, mostly dismissed as a “nonsense name” in the media, is short for FireBoat PhilaDelphia PiLoT, which is what he presumably used to do. He grew up in the near Northeast and in the late 2000s moved to the Northeast burbs, where he still lives. He was in the Navy in the ‘70s. He’s a Virgo.
And he is out of his fucking mind.
The comment that Dougherty's suing over is completely in line with the general tone of fbpdplt's comments. We looked at fbpdplt's Disqus account, and it appears that he's regarded as a troll even in the comments sections of extremely right-wing websites. You'd think that the impending lawsuit would mean he'd go silent for a while, but he's got a current Disqus account, which he used to post this just yesterday:

That's a pretty good representative of what the average fbpdplt post looks like, which is why it's kind of funny that Dougherty is suing. Here's some more examples:

The Parish I grew up in was heavily Italian. as a matter of fact you had to have one parent that was Italian to get in the school!...Some of the nuns as well as some of the students spoke Italian as a first language..but we all spoke engilsh in class! Really??? The RC Church I grew up in and the High(60's) school I went to never susbscribed to anything Vicky boy has been spewing.... I never heard any anti-Semitic propaganda !!! I surely never heard any descriptions the way he is saying them...It is true that in grade school the nuns used to tell us it was a sin to set foot in a Protestant Church...but that all went out the window by the time I got to HS. WE all thought it was pretty funny anyway....I just attribute this to the nuns who were mixed European and some home grown American ..still had old world values & teachings ingrained.
