Philly is weird and incredible.

East Kensington Neighbors Association's annual fete of all things artsy and architectural kicked off this morning with both the Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby (people dress up like maniacs/construct wild vehicles they drive around Fishtown/Kensington and eventually into a mud pit) and the Trenton Avenue Arts Festival. If you've never been, the derby really is one of those quirky Philly things that's hard to describe seriously to anyone who doesn't live here. The arts fest goes until 6 p.m. tonight.

Some highlights (I didn't get very good pictures of derby people, but some Instagrammers did):

A shark-man takes a dive into the mudpit. Little kid in the red shirt is not amused. Photo by Stacey Salter Moore, @staceydoespics on Instagram.

A casual Saturday afternoon ensemble.

The mud pit, with people's costume parts stuck in it.

Apparently this amazingly dressed pooch has her own Facebook page, but I can't remember her name. Anyone?

This vehicle is probably worth more than my own car, to be honest.

Happy Spring, derby-ers, and everyone!
