Unless you're one of those jerks with Neutral Milk Hotel tickets. In which case, bite us. Or come watch us give a reading.

Weird stuff from Emily's Facebook: Wed., Jan. 29

Emily gets so many invites to interesting stuff on Facebook and via email that it seems like a waste not to share the wealth. If you've already combed our new and improved events listings and still can't find anything that strikes your fancy, check here every afternoon for a few bonus things going on that night. Want to invite Emily to your event? Cool! She's at facebook.com/emilygee. You'll probably be better served by entering your thing into our events system, though.

9 p.m. — Writers Night in America 1-year anniversary show at Jose Pistola's.

Here's how it works- Every month TJ Kong will curate a night of local Philadelphia writers performing their work. Each writer will read a piece or two or have a piece read by a performer- and then Kong will conduct a short and snappy interview. Some pieces will be current other pieces will be less so but all the writers are alive.

THIS MONTH IS OUR ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

We're celebrating with a long list of our favorite guests from the first year of our lives together as well as recording the entire show for purposes of the future and a few other surprises along the way

I pick things for this roundup completely unobjectively, based on whether I would actually go to whatever it is if I had time; I would definitely go to this, but it is because I will be reading stuff from my Mummers + Blackface cover from last month, and doing a slideshow of some of the insane archival photos we didn't have room for in the paper.

Also reading are a few other writers and friends of CP: Dan McQuade, of the Flyers fan-fic story; Bryan Bierman, who writes many things but notably a cover about skywriting art; and Molly Eichel, currently of the Daily News but formerly a CP staffer.

6 p.m. — Ryan Collerd, Prize Every Time opening at Kelly Writers House.

Join us for the opening reception of this show of recent photographs by Ryan Collerd at the Brodsky Gallery at the Kelly Writers House! Ryan will start the night with an artist's talk, followed by a reception featuring state fair snacks! and plenty of time to take in the photographs and toast to Ryan.

Collerd is an excellent photographer and all-around excellent person; we'll let him explain Prize Every Time with this silly-ass video:

Everybody noticed the Jesus with his arm around a dinosaur, right?

8 p.m. — Annual Year in Pictures at the Pen & Pencil.

It's time to gather up your best images of 2013 for the Annual Year in Pictures Photo Night. David Maialetti will curate the images for a multimedia presentation at the Pen & Pencil Club in Philadelphia. Photographers are welcome to submit their best color or black and white digital images. The January 29th screening event at the P&P is open to all photographers, friends and family.

This is always really cool, and getting some of the stories behind the images is infinitely interesting. Besides, the bartender at the P&P does a mean Manhattan.
