A meeting of the minds between freaky French electro-funk/hip-hop producer Débruit and classical Sudanese singer Alsarah, Aljawal (Soundway) offers an astonishingly fluid fusion that, even in a musical climate overrun with trans-cultural cross-pollinations, feels surprising and truly exotic. Who knew how natural and satisfying it could be to connect the dots between whirling-dervish music and the ecstatic stutterings of Chicago footwork?
