Grandchildren
[Dec. 28] With their latest album, Philadelphia's Grandchildren have discovered a weird and eerie soulful side.
With their latest album, Golden Age — produced by Man Man drummer Chris Powell and Dr. Dog sound engineer Bill Moriarty — Philadelphia’s Grandchildren have discovered a weird and eerie soulful side. The rich, harmonic vocals are a far cry from the pop sextet’s usual cold, mod, electronic psychedelic-folk. More organic and less techno-tronic than 2010’s Everlasting, the arrangements on the bleak “End Times” and the aptly breezy “Sunrise” make for some beautiful, almost orchestral, music for Aleks Martray’s nasal, high voice to loll and play upon.
Sat., Dec. 28, 9 p.m., $10, with Purples and Night Panther, Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 267-639-4528, bootandsaddlephilly.com.
