Porno Play
Making Porn, opening for a two-week run at Plays & Players, is about just that: the gay pornography industry. But the play itself, which has been produced throughout the country since its premiere in Chicago in 1995, has attracted attention way beyond the gay porn biz, winning good-to-mixed notices everywhere from LA Weekly to Variety to the New York Times. A mix of satire, sentimentality and full frontal nudity, Phillys production stars Blake Harper a real-life gay porn star who, besides looking good naked, has shown an actual propensity for acting and Billy Masters, a nationally syndicated columnist whose bitchy gossip used to be a must-read in the now-defunct gay newsweekly Au Courant.
Aug. 16-27, Plays & Players Theatre, 1714 Delancey St., Wed.-Fri., 8 p.m.; Sat., 7 & 10 p.m.; Sun., 7 p.m., $25-$30 (front rows, $5 extra), 1-800-965-4827. Tickets also available at www.ticketweb.com and TLA Video.
