What's CookingSuburban Invasion
Sun.-Fri., Feb. 19-24, citywide, $30
It's that time of year again: Restaurants around the city will be slashing their menu prices and serving three-course meals for $30 a head, while nearby parking garages offer special rates of $8.50 or less. All diners who take advantage of the week's bargains will be entered to win free dinners from some of the 99 participating restaurants. Players include Bliss, DiNardo's Famous Seafood, Friday Saturday Sunday, Le Bar Lyonnais, Alma de Cuba, Bistro 7, Roy's Restaurant, Rouge, Zanzibar Blue, The Smoked Joint and more, but we're most impressed with The Plough & the Stars' trend-bucking move to offer a $15 three-course lunch with items such as beef tenderloin salad and grilled tuna loin. A nice bite when the price is right. Visit www.centercityphila.org/restaurantweek for more information.
Piano Men
Thu., Feb. 16 and Thu., Feb. 23, 7:30 p.m., $15.95
Because we're all in the mood for a melody, the Manayunk Brewery and Restaurant is having a special musical night featuring dueling grand pianos. While the musicians crank out classic rock hits, listeners can enjoy a prix fixe three-course meal with no cover charge. Entrees include bourbon flat iron steak, rustic rigatoni and Harry's cedar plank salmon, while the dessert varies at the chef's discretion. So sit at the bar and put bread in their jar and say, "Man, what are you doing here?" Dueling Pianos, Manayunk Brewery and Restaurant, 4120 Main St., 215-482-8220.
Jersey Boys
Wed., Feb. 22, 7 p.m., $60
Guest chefs are making the rounds in South Jersey. Casanova Grill chef Joe Palombo will be joined by chef Lou Imbesi of Catelli's restaurant in Voorhees. The plan: Shove Italian food down diners' throats just like grandma used to do. The planned menu has items such as fennel-roasted American red snapper and an herb-crusted baby rack of veal. SJ Hot Chefs Guest Series, Casanova Grill, 230 N. Maple Ave., Marlton, N.J., 856-810-2099.
