Concert Review/Photos: La Luz @ Underground Arts 8/26
Where doo-wop dominates indie rock.
Last Wednesday, Underground Arts played host to a triple bill of high voltage indie rock. First up was Philly’s own The Pretty Greens. The all-woman trio mixed bass, guitar and drums with garage rock fun. They perfectly set up the stage for Brooklyn-based Scully. The foursome served up some catchy indie rock.
Then it was time for headliners La Luz. They came in on a wave of surfing punk rock. Each quarter of the Seattle band was integral to their unique sound. Lead guitarist Shana Cleveland certainly captivated and with the bass lines of Lena Simon to back her up, strings rattled and hummed. The drumming of Marian Li Pino and the keyboard and other percussion of Alice Sandahl drove the beats further into an alternative realm where doo-wop dominates indie rock.
