Concert Review/Photos: Lady Lamb @ World Café Live 4/8
Aly Spaltro, aka Lady Lamb, is a magician, conjuring haunting folk rock melodies with her trusty guitars, banjo and her soulful voice. With her 2015 LP After offering much of the material for the night, Lady Lamb took a packed World Café Live Upstairs on a tour of her rich imagination, backed by bassist TJ Metcalfe and drummer Derek Gierhan.

Songs like “Vena Cava” and “Dear Arkansas Daughter” popped and sizzled. Sounding unlike any other modern musician, Lady Lamb poured passion into every note. There was the folk parable “Violet Clementine” and its repeated chorus about building a “nest of yellow yarn.” It’s a glorious earworm that won’t leave you for days. And the solo show closer of “Penny Licks” and its declarations of “We will crane our necks/ We do not wish to make a baby” is rock at its finest, poetic and catchy.
Still unknown to many, Lady Lamb should be on the tip of any true music fan’s tongue, especially on a wishlist of performers to see live.
Luke Rathborne opened with his riveting folk rock.
