Drinking Plans: Pennsylvania Wine Tasting Today
Pinot from PA?

A few weeks back we told you about Max Gottesfeld, the wine specialist at the Chestnut Street State Store who is pushing to up the quality of wines available to the PA public. Gottesfeld puts together weekly in store tastings and his line up for this afternoon is particularly exciting — a cast of all Pennsylvania produced pours from local vineyards. Stop by 1218 Chestnut Street today from 4 to 6 p.m. for tastes of PA pinot grigio, cabernet franc and more. Here's a peek at the line up:
Mazza Pinot Grigio, Lake Erie PA 2011
Silvery straw color with a pale brass cast. Aromas of nut brittle, honeyed melon rind, and peach pit with a crisp, fruity-yet-dry light-to-medium body and a tangy, nectarine and Meyer lemon accented finish. A bright, well-balanced sipper or table wine.-BTI
Pennswoods Chardonnay, Chester County PA 2012
An oaky chardonnay is what a lot of people think of when they think of chardonnays form the US. But Chardonnays form Europe can still be oaky. The difference is the acidity. In California where everything ripens it is hard to keep the acidity and have the body that oak and malolactic fermentation give the wine. But in Pennsylvania where the weather is not ideal Gino Razzi of Pennswoods is doing just that. The 2012 vintage has soft and ripe flavors with a kiss of oak followed up by great bracing acidity.
Karamoor Cabernet Franc, Fort Washington PA 2010
There are some amazing wines coming out of Pennsylvania. Karamoor is one of those names we're hearing more and more about. Let's see if the Cabernet Franc is one of those wines.
Chaddsford Merican, Chaddsford PA 2005
One of the iconic wineries on the East Coast, Chaddsford Winery has been producing award-winning wines since their first release in 1983. Heralded winemaker Eric Miller is largely credited with launching a wine industry in Pennsylvania that now boasts more than 100 wineries and counting. Having achieved national acclaim and recognition, Eric's wines have been featured in a number of prestigious wine and food publications. A true wine pioneer that has dedicated his life to perfecting the art of winemaking.
