Activist Cheri Honkala was among a group of about 40 teachers, students and parents from Moffett Elementary School who staged a sit-in over the state of Philadelphia public schools late yesterday afternoon in the lobby of the Bellevue building, where Gov. Tom Corbett has his offices on an upper floor.
Honkala, whose son attends Moffett, led the protest in response to the state-controlled School Reform Commission's decision on Monday to cancel the teachers' contract, requiring them to pay health-care premiums for the first time.
