Before a room of lawyers, reporters, gambling executives and a few protesters, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board unanimously voted to award Live! Philadelphia the city's second and final casino license. Live! Philadelphia will be built near the sports stadiums at 10th and Packer Avenue.
Live! Philadelphia is a partnership between Baltimore-based builder Cordish Cos., which owns Xfinity Live!, and Greenwood Gaming, which operates Parx Casino in Bensalem.
Live! Philadelphia will be the fifth casino in the greater Philadelphia area, joining SugarHouse in Fishtown, Parx, Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia and Harrah's Philadelphia in Chester. Coincidentally, five is also the number of casinos shuttering this year in Atlantic City if Trump Taj Mahal closes Dec. 12, as expected.
