More news from the excuses-to-eat-stuff-because-of-a-snowstorm bureau: Tonight and tomorrow chef Eli Collins of Pub & Kitchen (1946 Lombard St.) is rolling out his tribute to a very Philadelphia sandwich, the Schmitter. With roots at McNally's Tavern in Chestnut Hill, the classic Schmitter is a monster of a sandwich made up of layers of thinly sliced steak, salami, cheese, fried onions, tomatoes and special sauce loaded onto a kaiser roll.
From the looks of Collins' take on it he swapped out the steak for slices of smoked duck and and added a red cabbage slaw to the mix on a burnished poppy and sesame topped roll. It's going to be on special this evening and tomorrow at Pub & Kitchen, one of the coziest GradHo spots to keep warm during the storm.
