THIS WEEKEND: Sock puppet art song
Do yourself a favor and go see this.

Full disclosure: I know a couple of people involved with ARTCY, aka Artsong Repertory Theater Company. But mentioning Saturday afternoon's event, Sock Puppets and Art Songs, is not doing them a favor. It is doing you the readers a favor. I'm completely serious. You should go see this.
Did you think sock puppets were just for kids? Well, grown-ups can have fun, too! Watch as we stretch our abilities of musical expression to make cotton socks, yarn and buttons come to life. Whether you laugh until you cry or are moved to tears, you will surely experience vocal art music at its purest. Come early and make your own sock puppet! Must be 21+ to enter.
Artcy's a pretty new company; this is only their second season. Their Saturday Afternoon Drinking Songs salon-style series at the First Unitarian Church have pulled off the tough balancing act of being funny and accessible to classical newbies while remaining very, very musically legit. (Mezzo Jen Beattie, a cofounder just got a killer review for an art-song performance in the New York Classical Review.) And there's always a lot of wine flowing. Just do yourself a favor and catch this one.
