NYC DOT
The Brooklyn Bridge opened in 1883 for horse-drawn and rail traffic with elevated promenade for pedestrians and cyclists. Since then it has become a travel destination promenade with increased traffic by pedestrians and cyclists The overcrowding of the existing promenade has initiated the NYC DOT to assess expanding the narrow promenade.
The NYC DOT will move ahead with a consultant study by AECOM, an engineering firm, running through to February of next year. The study will include structural analysis, conceptual design development, historical preservation implication study, and a conceptual cost estimate.
