Fearless Mother Jones: Victory at Arnot

Fri May 20 , 8pm

Professional storyteller Megan Hicks is joined by Settlement Music School faculty musicians to bring to life this inspiring true story. In 1899, Mary "Mother" Jones came to a small Pennsylvania mining town to help with a strike for safer working conditions and a living wage. She organized an army of women, telling them to arm themselves with their brooms and mops and dishpans. “I abhor violence,” she said. “I favor drama…” The story also features heroic union president William Wilson, who later became our country’s first Secretary of Labor. Featuring live music by Eleanor Aversa (piano), Andreia Torain (violin), and Elivi Varga (flute). Original music by Eleanor Aversa. Settlement Music is wheelchair accessible and has free, off-street parking.
