Musical Encounters: Kensington

Sat Jun 4 - Sat Jun 4 , 8:00pm-9:30pm

Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture and PNC Arts Alive are pleased to invite you to a vibrant musical evening in the outdoor courtyard of Oxford Mills. Western Classical and Arab music will be intertwined for a cross-genre collaboration with Prometheus Chamber Orchestra, reinterpreting works by Vivaldi, Mohammad Abdel Wahab, Raphael Hernandez, and Chick Corea. Al-Bustan Takht Ensemble and Prometheus Chamber Orchestra perform this repertoire in three Philadelphia neighborhoods: June 4 in Kensington at Oxford Mills, June 17 in North Philly at Church of the Advocate, the concert was previously presented at USG-Unitarian Society of Germantown on May 7. Prior to each concert (4-5:30pm), audiences are invited to bring their own drum (#BYOD) and participate in a workshop led by Master Percussionist/Takht member Hafez Kotain. Please note that we will have some drums available for participants to play. Additionally, a portion of the concert will feature audience participation.
